Why as your chiropractor and doctor would I want you to practice mindfulness?

Because your health is all about how you respond to stress.   And how you handle your stresses is possibly the biggest health factor in your life.  If you handle stress poorly and it dominates your nervous system, it is exhausting and will cause you poor health.  If you handle stress well, you will age slower, feel great, and enjoy a better quality of life.

Mindfulness can help alleviate stress through improving emotion regulation, leading to a better mood and the ability to better handle stress (Remmers, Topolinski, & Koole, 2016).  The benefits of mindfulness are focused on stress reduction.  When you induce a state of relaxation, which can be achieved through mindfulness, another kind of meditation, or other activities, you can reap the benefits, including:

  • Higher brain functioning
  • Increased immune function
  • Lowered blood pressure
  • Lowered heart rate
  • Increased awareness
  • Increased attention and focus
  • Increased clarity in thinking and perception
  • Lowered anxiety levels
  • Experience of being calm and internally still
  • Experience of feeling connected

When you are relaxed and non-stressed, your body can heal and restore.  The chronic stress that drives the brain and body to overwork and malfunction can be reduced and negated.  The practice of mediation or mindfulness is a tool to stretch and exercise your mind, as you exercise your body.  Our mind is a beautiful asset when we unlock its potential. 🙂

Beet and Green Apple Salad
Servings: 1

  • 1 medium-sized raw beet
  • 1 green apple
  • Ginger (powdered)
  • ½ lemon, squeezed
  1. Thinly slice green apple and beets and combine. Add ginger and lemon and toss.  Enjoy!

 

Lymph Detox Tea

  • ½ tsp Manjistha powder
  • Honey and/or lemon, optional
  1. Add manjistha to boiling water. Allow to steep. Strain if so desired, and add lemon and/or honey, if desired.
